AGM vs GEL-Mobility Scooter Batteries
There are two popular types of mobility batteries: gel and AGM. Both types of batteries have their own advantages and benefits, but there are a few key differences between them that make them different. In this article, we’ll look at six of the biggest differences between gel and AGM mobility batteries to help you decide which type is best for you.
Building and Planning
Gel batteries and AGM batteries are made in different ways. Gel batteries use a gel-like substance instead of liquid electrolyte, while AGM batteries use an electrolyte-soaked fibreglass mat. Gel batteries are less likely to leak because they are made of gel, while AGM batteries are more durable and can handle rough terrain.
Conditions for charging
Gel batteries have to be charged at a lower voltage and more slowly than AGM batteries. This means that it takes longer to charge a gel battery than an AGM battery. Gel batteries, on the other hand, can handle being overcharged better than AGM batteries, which can happen.
Sensitivity to Temperature:
Gel batteries are less affected by changes in temperature than AGM batteries. They can work well in places where the temperature is high or low. On the other hand, AGM batteries can be sensitive to changes in temperature, and temperatures that are too high can make them last less.
Deep Cycle Capabilities– AGM vs GEL
Deep-cycle batteries come in two types: AGM vs GEL. Gel batteries are better for deep cycling than AGM batteries. This means that gel batteries can be discharged more deeply and recharge better than AGM batteries. Gel batteries may be better if you use your mobility device for long periods of time.
Maintenance Requirements
Gel batteries don’t need as much upkeep as AGM batteries. They don’t need to be topped off with water, which is what AGM batteries need. Gel batteries also last longer than AGM batteries, so you don’t have to replace them as often.
Price
The price is probably the deciding factor. In my opinion, this is why the gel battery has practically died out for use on mobility scooters. Gel batteries usually cost more than AGM batteries. This is because of how they are made and designed. Which makes them less likely to leak or suffer other kinds of damage. But because they last longer and need less maintenance, they may be cheaper in the long run.
In the end, gel and AGM batteries are both good in their own ways and have their own benefits.
When deciding which type of battery is best for your needs, you should think about things like how it is built and designed, how often it needs to be charged, how sensitive it is to temperature, how long it can be used, how often it needs to be maintained, and how much it costs.
By knowing the differences between these two types of batteries, you can choose the right one for you.
Popular Mobility Scooter Batteries-AGM vs GEL
So, if you’re not quite sure what the difference between AGM vs GEL mobility scooter batteries is, Also, you will need to know which ones best suit you! Then you can find out here.
So, these types of comparisons are pretty common. Importantly, there is no doubt that the more information, the better. Consequently, I will always include these articles in my blogs.
Recently, the AGM battery has become far more popular than the Gel scooter batteries.
So, the AGM battery is what it says on the tin!
AGM stands for “absorbed glass matting“. Naturally, this is a lead-acid battery, but it does not have free-flowing liquid acid. Instead, the battery is filled with a type of glass matting that the battery’s acid absorbs.
This gives the battery a different characteristic than the standard car battery. Simply put, the battery has a far better charge rate and deep cycle rate. making this type of battery totally sealed and maintenance-free. These batteries can be fitted in any position, and that’s simply it!
Gel batteries-AGM vs GEL
Of course, there are also lead-acid batteries. They are still popular with some battery manufacturers. However, more and more scooter manufacturers have turned to AGM batteries in recent years. Gel batteries have the same characteristics as AGM batteries but are filled with a silicone substance, making the acid turn into gel. Importantly, though, these batteries are also maintenance-free and can be fitted in any position.
Both AGM vs GEL are worth considering, but the main difference is that the Gel battery is more expensive. Also, the Gel battery requires a different charger because it is much more sensitive.
Finally, there is great debate about which battery is the best, and in the end, the final decision rests with the person wishing to purchase a new battery.
