So this was to be one of the happier moments of my life. Importantly, I was checking my weekend sales. I noticed that a customer had ordered some ER350 Exide Leisure Batteries! Eight, to be precise. The prize destination was a location near the Mull of Kintyre. Of course, it’s in the far south-west of Scotland.

So, having been a lifelong “Beatles” fan, I continued with the singing and writing of Sir Paul McCartney. “Mull of Kintyre” had then taken a special place in my heart.

Most Beatles fans remember this song when Paul was married to Linda and they were in a great band called “Wings.” After a couple of years away from Paul’s Scottish retreat, Linda asked Paul if they could revisit the farm that Paul had bought a few years earlier.

Mull of Kintyre was reborn

Linda fell in love with the breath-taking beauty of Scotland’s mountains and golden beaches. Paul’s love of place was also reignited, and the couple made the decision to raise their family in the area. Importantly for all Beetle fans, then, Paul decided that nothing had recently been written or sung about Scotland’s wealth of staggering beauty. So together with fellow “Wings” band member Denny Laine

Paul knew of a Scottish pipe band from nearby Campbeltown, which is where my ER350 Exide Leisure batteries were to be delivered. The new song needed a Scottish influence, and the bagpipe band would give it just the right touch.

Paul worked with the pipe band and created the wonderful song and video for “Mull of Kintyre.” This song is one of my all-time favourites, transporting me to 1977 and a time of great joy.

One of the greatest songs ever written.
