10 Best ways to jump start your car

To jump-start a car, you will need another car with a working battery, a set of jumper cables, and a safe place to park both cars. Follow these steps:

  1. Park the working car (the “donor car”) close to the car with the dead battery, but make sure the two cars do not touch.
  2. Turn off both cars and engage the hand brakes.
  3. Open the bonnets of both cars and locate the batteries. Sometimes the battery is in the boot or under the seat. The positive post of the battery is usually marked with a “+” sign, while the negative post is marked with a “-” sign.
  4. Take the jumper cables and connect one end of the red (positive) cable to the positive terminal of the working car’s battery.
  5. Connect the other end of the red cable to the positive terminal of the dead battery.
  6. Connect one end of the black (negative) cable to the negative terminal of the working car’s battery.
  7. Find a metal surface on the car with the dead battery, such as a bolt on the engine block, and connect the other end of the black cable to it.
  8. Start the donor car and let it run for a few minutes.
  9. Try starting the car with a dead battery. If it starts, let it run for a few minutes to allow the Jump Starter batteries to charge. If it doesn’t start, make sure the cables are properly connected and try again.
  10. If this fails, then a new battery will be required.
  11. It’s important to be careful when jumping and starting a car. Jump Starter batteries

Make sure the cables are properly connected, and do not let the cables touch each other or any metal surfaces, as this can cause sparks and potentially damage the cars or start a fire. It’s also a good idea to wear gloves and eye protection (from a possible acid spill) to protect yourself from any accidental shocks.

Of course, most of us have heard of a jump starter. As a result, the jump starter is an important piece of equipment for most busy garages. Consequently, the jump starter is used to start a car with a flat battery. So, another name for a jump starter is a battery booster. The battery booster is the equivalent of having a spare, fully charged battery ready to go.

The unit has wheels to make it more portable

and is fitted with a set of heavy-duty jump leads. Consequently, the battery used in the jump starter is an AGM battery. The AGM battery has a deep-cycle capacity. As a result, it is ideal for jump-starting cars with flat batteries.

The AGM battery can also be known as the VRLA battery. This stands for “valve-regulated lead acid battery,” and the two types are virtually the same battery. The AGM battery is a sealed unit and will not spill out any acid; even if the battery is fitted on its side, the acid will not leak.

This is because the acid is not free-flowing: Jump Starter batteries

but instead is filled with a type of glass mat. Hence the term “AGM,” “absorbed glass matting.” By adding this glass fibre, the Jump Starter batteries’ increased surface area gives them more power when compared with the standard 12-volt battery that we use on many of our cars.
