I love writing my blogs about the beautiful sites and countryside that we have here in the UK. From Cornwall in the south to Aberdeen in the north of Scotland, I have visited them all. Many of my battery deliveries bring back memories of my childhood and youth.
including posts that I have written about hiking with my school in the Yorkshire Dales, Lake District, and, of course, Bonny Scotland. Places that were new to me also stick in my mind. So, I find Wales one of my best discoveries, as I have delivered “tractor batteries” to remote Welsh sheep farmers.
Also, not forgetting my own county of Yorkshire, from “boat batteries” to Whitby to hundreds of “leisure batteries” delivered to caravan and motorhome holiday parks all over this vast county.

Of course, now that I am an old guy, I do tend to reminisce on occasion. This brings me to a very happy moment in my life. So, last week, I delivered some deep cycle batteries to a Lincolnshire fun park. This was to be my second visit to the area in the last two weeks.
The delivery was to be close to a large clock in the middle of a roundabout in Skegness. Skegness is a very popular seaside town in the UK county of Lincolnshire, and it takes me a two-hour journey to get there.

When approaching the roundabout before turning into the fun park, a wonderful feeling passed through me. Just like someone receives some good news about something, I suspect My thoughts took me back to where I had my first real date with my now-wife of over forty years, Michelle.
Of course, we had met on a couple of other occasions, but this was the first time that I had missed her company. Michelle had gone on a pre-arranged holiday with her friend and her friend’s parents. I remember feeling down and lonely at the thought of her not being around.

Fortunately, I managed to contact her, and she agreed to arrange a date at the very clock tower that I was now approaching, delivering my batteries to the fun park.
This was our first big date, and when she turned up to meet me, I knew this was going to be very special. Michelle agreed to travel back home with me the following day, and the rest is history. Consequently, her friend and parents were not very pleased, but we were in love, and nothing could stop us.
So, eight children and many other successes later, we are still as happy as ever and, of course, run a great battery business together.
Sad end to this happy story
Sadly, Michelle has been diagnosed with MND, or motor neuron disease. Although she can no longer walk, her spirits are incredible. She is in constant contact with our now-grown-up children and close family.
I will never forget that day in Skegness, and it still brings a tear to my eye when I think about it.
